How did The Titanic change the World?
The Titanic
sinking revolutionized ship safety. With every ship having enough life boat for
every passenger and crew, it improved safety regulations and ensured that if
this type of disaster ever happens again, there would be fewer
deaths.
The sinking of the Titanic improved safety regulations for boats
or ships, before the sinking of the Titanic, there usually weren’t enough life
boats or life jackets for each person on board. Ship companies were constantly
in competition with each other until May 1911, when White Star Line released the
RMS Titanic. It was considered very large and very luxurious. However they had
decision of adding enough life boats for everyone or using that space for more
activities for the passengers, obviously they picked the second choice. That
decision had caused about 2,223 deaths. My argument is that maybe if the person
who designed the Titanic added more life boats, so many people would have not
lost their friends and loved ones. Also if the Captain and crew paid closer
attention, this disaster could have been avoided. Maybe if they considered the
safety precautions they could have avoided so many deaths and sufferings.
Because this disaster occurred, the people who designed ships made more safety
precautions and made sure there were enough life boats for each person on board.
Even though this disaster was a great loss of life, it has helped innovate the
safety rules and saved many lives in sinkings
today.
The Titanic was named for the Titans, mighty gods of Greek mythology
renowned for their size and strength. The White Star Line took the lead in 1912
when it introduced its Titanic; a floating palace fit for kings of finance,
industry and titled people of the world. Even after 100 years after the sinking,
people still care about the Titanic because the ways it tremendously changed the
world. It took 3 years, 25,000 tons of steel, and 3,000 years to complete, it
was considered very well built and practically unsinkable. But, the reason for
the sinking was still a mystery, perhaps human error? Or maybe engine
malfunction. After the sinking, rules and regulations were established, every
ship would be required to have enough lifeboat space for each passenger on
board. A law now required lifeboat drills for all passengers during a voyage;
ships would also need to maintain a twenty four- hour radio watch. Another
direct result of the tragedy was the formation of the Ice Patrol. This
organization would warn ships of icebergs in the North Atlantic shipping lanes.
A recent ship disaster was the sinking of Costa Concordia; it sank along the
coast of Italy. The total deaths in that sinking was 11, it is a difference
from a death of 2,223 from the Titanic. The change in rules and regulations
lowered the death tolls in ship sinkings, and revolutionized ship safety which
saved many lives.
